Special Focus: Unprotected: Israeli settler violence against Palestinian civilians and their property | Dec 2008
In the first 10 months of 2008, OCHA recorded 290 settler-related incidents targeting Palestinians and their property. This figure reflects a worrying trend, since it surpasses the total recorded by OCHA in each of the previous two years. Similarly, Palestinian deaths and injuries resulting from settler-related incidents in 2008 exceed the number of Palestinian casualties in each of the previous two years. Approximately half of all Palestinian injuries from settler violence each year since 2006 have been made up of children, women, and the elderly over 70 years of age.
The Humanitarian Impact on Palestinians of Israeli Settlements and Other Infrastructure in the West Bank | July 2007
The report examines the humanitarian impact on Palestinians from the ongoing settlements in the West Bank and other Israeli infrastructure, such as the Barrier and the roads that accompany them. The analysis shows that more than 38% of the West Bank is now taken up by Israeli infrastructure. Roads linking settlements and other infrastructure to Israel ? in conjunction with an extensive system of checkpoints and roadblocks ? have fragmented the West Bank into a series of enclaves separating Palestinian communities from each other. The socio-economic impact has been profound.

There were three demolitions, including two forced self-demolitions in East Jerusalem. Israeli military forces continue to enforce access restrictions on the so-called "buffer zone" in Gaza border areas and beyond three nautical miles from Gaza’s coast. Weekly average of imported truckloads remains below needs and decline in cooking gas continues. Protection of Civilians Weekly Report
West Bank Movement and Access Update | June 2009
In the course of the past month the Israeli authorities have implemented several steps that have further eased the flow of Palestinian traffic to and from four West Bank cities: Nablus, Qalqiliya, Ramallah and Jericho. Initial field observations indicate that these measures have significantly reduced the amount of time required for Palestinians to access these cities. None of these steps, except one, included the complete dismantlement of checkpoints? infrastructure. To date, there are a total of 613 closure obstacles within the West Bank territory, including 68 are permanently staffed checkpoints. Barrier and Checkpoints
The Humanitarian Monitor | May 2009
In the West Bank and Gaza Strip, access restrictions continue to impact Palestinian livelihoods. Approximately, 28 percent of the West Bank is declared by Israel as closed military zones and natural reserves, while in the Gaza Strip, Israeli imposed movement restrictions continue to prevent Palestinians from reaching fishing and farming areas. During the month, two Palestinians were killed in the West Bank and 83 were injured, two-thirds of whom were injured in anti-Barrier weekly demonstrations. In the Gaza Strip, two Palestinians were killed when Israeli air strikes hit Rafah tunnels. Six Palestinians were killed in the last few days of May when clashes erupted in Qalqiliya between Hamas members and PA security forces. The blockade of Gaza continues. The Humanitarian Monitor
West Bank Movement and Access Update | May 2009
Israeli authorities implemented a number of measures easing the flow of Palestinian traffic on some of the access routes into four main cities. Other Israeli measures indicate a further entrenchment of the various mechanisms used to control and restrict Palestinian movement, and to facilitate the commute of Israeli settlers. OCHA?s latest field survey mapped 634 obstacles blocking internal Palestinian movement and access throughout the West Bank: 93 staffed checkpoints and 541 unstaffed obstacles (roadblocks, earthmounds etc). The figure is an insignificant increase of four obstacles from September 2008. Barrier and Checkpoints
Special Focus : Shrinking Space : Urban Contraction and Rural Fragmentation of Bethlehem Governorate | May 2009
This report examines how Israeli measures, such as the Barrier, settlements and closures have impacted Palestinian livelihoods, development and residential expansion in the Bethlehem governorate. Only 13% of Bethlehem land is available for Palestinian use out of 660 sq. kilometers and much of it is fragmented. However, actions like freezing construction of the Barrier inside the West Bank, and opening closed military areas and nature reserves for Palestinian development, could restore parts of the lost space to the governorate.
